Teeth Whitening

Tooth whitening  is a cosmetic  procedure to lighten the natural color of your teeth without damaging or removing any tooth surface. Although it  does not completely change color of the tooth, it lightens the existing shade thus enhancing your smile. It is one of the most conservative and cost-effective treatments for discoloured teeth as compared to other treatment modalities like veneering, crowning or bonding to enhance an individual smile.

Causes of tooth discloration:

  • Age
  • Smoking
  • Food and drinks like tea and coffee
  • Antibiotics
  • Excessive fluoride uptake during tooth formation
  • Genetics
  • Poor oral hygiene

Teeth whitening can be done at home or in the clinic. Home bleaching can be done using special trays made by the doctor .In office (clinic) bleaching. Bleaching is however  more effective .It is done by first applying a protective barrier around the gums to protect them from the bleaching agent. Then the bleaching agent is applied on tooth surface .Using various techniques, the agent is activated. Bleaching can be done  in a single visit and takes less than an hour to  achieve the desired results.

You can opt for our in- house  laser whitening facility . In this we use special  laser to  activate the chemical agent. The laser activation  speeds up the reaction, thereby shortening the duration of the treatment. Laser whitening is said to make teeth up to five or six shades lighter. It is more precise and efficient than the conventional whitening procedure.

Care after tooth whitening

  • Avoid smoking for 48 hours
  • Avoid foods and beverages that stain (red sauce, blueberries, juice, coffee, tea, etc.)
  • Avoid extreme hot or cold food and drinks if sensitivity is present. it usually reduces within 1 – 2 days. If sensitivity persists desensitizing tooth paste or analgesics can be used. In case of sensitive or tender gums , brush your teeth gently without  touching the gums.
