Dental care is important in growing children.Developing a habit to maintain oral hygiene should be inculcated in children at early age.
The first dental visit is recommended  within 6 months of the first tooth eruption or by 12 months of age.

Dental  visit usually include risk assessment for caries in mother and child.Examination  of habits like thumb sucking ,use of pacifier, excessive  bottle feeding etc is done.

• Certain preventive dental care procedures like cleaning, cavity sealant application, flouride treatments may be performed.
• Developed cavities may need fillings.
• Examination of Oral signs and symptoms associated with medical diseases like diabetes​, congenital heart defect, asthma, hay fever and attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD​).
• Bite evaluation and need for orthodontic treatment.
• Evaluation of any soft tissue problems like ulcers , tongue tie , mucocele etc
• Injuries and tooth fractures due to trauma
