Crowns and Bridges

A bridge is a form of  fixed prosthesis used to replace one or more missing teeth by connecting an artificial toothor false tooth(pontic) to adjacent teeth or dental implants.

Replacing missing tooth is important for overall stablization of the bite.If not replaced adjacent teeth move in the empty space. Also the  opposing tooth  can  move up or down toward the missing space. This results in drastic Biting  problems and chewing difficulties. Due to unstable bite pain may be experienced on remaining teeth. A missing front tooth causes unpleasant appearance.

Various materials used to fabricate crowns and bridges are porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, gold and acrylic. 

• Dental bridge types
• A traditional dental bridge: Missing tooth is replaced by pontic and supported by teeth on either side.
• Cantilever dental bridge:Missing tooth is replaced by pontic and supported by tooth on only one side
• Maryland dental bridge: Missing tooth is replaced by pontic that is attached to a framework of either metal or porcelain and  bonded onto the backs of the abutment teeth.
• Implant-supported dental bridge: Missing teeth are replaced by pontic supported by implants on either sides

With proper care and maintenance, your dental bridge can last 15 or more years. Follow these tips to increase lifespan of your prosthesis:

• Maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing twice daily and using floss regularly
• Avoid sticky foods that can pull and dislodge your bridge
• Avoid tobacco products
• Report any dental bridge damage to your dentist immediately.

A 6 montly follow up including a professional  cleaning ensures longevity of your prosthesis.
