Extraction and wisdom tooth surgery.

Impacted teeth are those which have failed to erupt completely in the mouth. The main reason for impaction is inadequate space. Most common teeth to remain impacted are third molars or wisdom teeth. Due to small jaw and inadequate space  wisdom teeth remain impacted.Since functionally they dont play any role, most of the times they are extracted.

Although most impacted teeth do not cause any trouble, some may result in certain problems like:

• Swollen gums around the tooth
• Pain and difficulty in mouth opening
• Bad breath or  bad taste in mouth
• Chewing and biting difficulty

Wisdom tooth extraction depends on whether it causes any problem or can lead to one. It is a single appointment procedure and performed under local anesthesia. The wound may have to be closed using sutures. Although it is a painfree procedure, post extraction slight discomfort, pain and swelling may be experienced which can be managed by medication.

Post extraction instructions:

• Chew on the cotton for next 45 mins
• Then have icecream and take medication
• Apply ice from outside
• Do not spit for next 24 hours
• Do not eat or drink anything hot or spicy
• Do not brush on the sutures.Rest of the teeth have  to be brushed regularly.
• Antibacterial mouthwash or warm salt gargle may be started after 24 hours
• Do not sleep  or apply pressure on that area
